Redick takes pole position in Las Vegas over Cindric

Radishpenultimate qualifying driver posted the fastest average lap speed of the day (184.603 mph) to win the pole for Sunday’s race at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Reddick’s No. 8 Chevrolet looked like it hit the wall near Turn 4, but he still got a lot of speed.

The pole was Redick’s third of the season and fourth of his career. All three of his career wins have come this season.

“I was either going to hit the wall or I wasn’t going to hit the wall, but it was a really good lap,” Reddick said. “I didn’t want to get that close, but I just had a good run through (turns) 3 and 4 and the wall got a lot closer and a lot earlier than I expected.

“We really weren’t shooting where we wanted to be in practice. We rested a bit and went to work. We made some really fantastic adjustments in qualifying, got the car a lot closer.

“We learned a lot and should be able to make some pretty good adjustments for tomorrow’s race.”

Austin Cindric was the second fastest (184.288 mph) and William Byron was third (184.024 mph). Ryan Blaneywho was fastest in Saturday’s practice, was fourth and Joey Logano close the top five.

Rounding out the top 10 starting line-up Daniel Suarezlast week’s winner Christopher Bell, Harrison Burton, Grandma Wallace and Austin Dillon.

1 round / Group B

Cindric led Group B with an average lap speed of 184.615 mph, the fastest lap of the day at that point.

Redick was second fastest (184.168 mph) and Byron was third (183.968 mph).

“We didn’t unload very well. “We wanted to make some changes,” Redick said. “We jumped at the stops. We went to work and made it better. We have made a huge improvement. That’s a testament to this group.”

Bell and Burton rounded out the top five and also advanced to the second round of qualifying.

Among those who failed to advance were Kyle Larson and playoff riders Ross Chastain and Chase Briscoe.

1 round / Group A

Blaney, who was fastest in practice Saturday, led Round 1 with an average lap speed of 183.492 mph.

Logano, the last car to qualify, was second fastest (183.380 mph) while Wallace was third (182.506 mph).

“We’re trying to tinker with some little things for tomorrow. The speed is good. We just have to get comfortable there,” Wallace said.

Suarez and Austin Dillon entered the top five and also made it to the second round of qualification.

Among those who failed to advance were Kyle Bush and playoff riders Chase Elliott and Denny Hamlin.
