The Avenger concept has improved looks and better approach and departure angles

Jeep Avenger 4×4 Concept

In September Jeep has unveiled the Avenger, an all-electric children’s SUV which will only be offered in Europe. Powered by a single electric motor that delivers a total of 154 horsepower, the Avenger is Jeep’s first front-wheel drive vehicle. For most Jeeps, without an all-wheel drive system and a lack of off-road capabilities doesn’t make sense. But at the 2022 Paris Motor Show, Jeep unveiled a solution in the form of the Avenger 4×4 Concept, a model that promises to give the tiny Avenger some off-road capabilities.

Compared to the standard Avenger, the 4×4 concept is equipped with larger and more aggressive tires. As a result, the concept’s ground clearance now exceeds 200 millimeters (7.8 in), and its approach and departure angles have been improved to 21 and 34 degrees, respectively. By comparison, the Avenger has an approach angle of 20 degrees and a departure angle of 32 degrees. The gap angle, however, remains at 20 degrees.

The exterior has also been tweaked a bit, giving the 4×4 concept a more aggressive look compared to the standard Avenger. The front has additional protection, and the bumpers and track are wider. With off-road capability in mind, the Avenger 4×4 concept has been fitted with tow hooks and a new lightweight roof cargo system with a special strap system that compresses the roof luggage. Both the cargo system and the radiator grille have an anti-scratch treatment, so you don’t have to worry when driving on dirt tracks. And finally, for better visibility at night, the concept comes with additional built-in spotlights.

There are no official specifications yet

Surprisingly, Jeep hasn’t said anything about the concept’s specs. However, since this is a 4×4 vehicle, we assume that the company has placed another electric motor on the rear axle. In the standard Avenger, an electric motor driving the front axle produces a total of 154 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. If Jeep also places the same motor in the rear, the 4×4 concept should deliver more than 300 horsepower and around 380 lb-ft of torque. In front-wheel-drive configuration, the Avenger has a range of 249 miles, but don’t expect anything like that for the 4×4 version due to the extra weight.

There’s no word on when or if the 4×4 Avenger will go into production, but it’s proof that the tiny SUV is capable of much more. During a press conference, Christian Meunier, CEO of the Jeep brand, said: “The Avenger was designed as a Jeep vehicle from the beginning, and the all-electric 4×2 model already offers some of the best-in-class capabilities that identify the Jeep brand. . But we couldn’t help but wonder, what if we packed the all-wheel drive electrification capabilities of the Jeep brand into a compact package while still maintaining the brand’s unique design language, capabilities and personality?’
